Las Vegs, NV—The Intervision salon at the recent JCK Luxury Show was full of interesting technologies coming to life for jewelers. The salon was curated by Andrea Hansen, founder of New York-based Luxe Intelligence. “Technology can bring emotion back to the game,” said Hansen. “Jewelers can use it to connect to customers in a new way.” Toward that end, Hansen invited a number of companies to bring in their industry-targeted applications and the fun began. These two technologies (see tomorrow’s newsletter for a third) come from Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company’s partnership with Excelion Partners.

“The new technologies we are debuting bridge the gap between digital and physical shopping experiences, providing a memorable experience for tech-savvy consumers,” said Benjamin DeBoer, director of corporate development at Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company.

“Developing interactive solutions is about making ideas a reality. We’re happy to have done this for not one, but three innovative products, that will enhance and protect the most important assets for the retail jeweler,” added Greg Oppermann, president of Excelion Partners.

HOLOJEM TM

Holojem, winner of the 2016 JCK Think Tank Competition, is designed to enable jewelers to readily combine digital shopping and in-store experiences. Using 3D holographic projection, jewelers can share designs with their customers who in turn can share them on their mobile devices and tablets. This novel approach will appeal to high-end consumers and Millennials who expect personalized shopping and customized product offerings, say the companies.

If you ever wondered what to do with your old CAD files, here’s the answer: convert them to 3D holograms and let your customers check them out! The instore display is one way to showcase these designs and the customer can move the design around by using their hand above a sensor. Holojem also works on various devices and designs can be quickly adjusted with a CAD program.

This 3D technology is being used worldwide. Currently in the Dubai Airport, a 15x18 foot display unit show planes landing. The same technology powers Holojem.

Jeweler Laura Stanley of Stanley Jewelers, North Little Rock, AR, tries out the new Holojem technology offering a 270 degree view of an item designed by CAD.

BEACON TECHNOLOGY

Through the JM Journey App (available for download in the Apple and Google Play app stores), Beacon Technology is one of the first tangible mobile applications created specifically for the jewelry market.

Two screenshots from the mobile app. As the customer moves through a store, the message changes as the consumer moves from beacon to beacon.

At the show, it was possible to download the app, and connect with strategically placed beacons around the show floor. You could do the same with your customers. Imagine a contest with a scavenger hunt in your store.

Or, imagine if you could use beacon technology to see how long someone stood in front of one of your showcases? Or perhaps attached to a display of rings so that you could see how many times it left the case (and sold or did not sell) during the day?

The size and placement of the beacons can offer a retailer much information. In the same way you can see a report of how many people visited each page of your website, you may also be able to see how many people visited specific parts of your store by strategically-placed beacons.
