Merrick, NY—What is your store’s succession plan? Many jewelers are bringing in the next generation or the next level of non-family ownership, but are they ready? If not, what is your plan?

That’s a major issue facing better jewelers today, but only one of many. Our workplace continues to change. It’s shrinking in terms of bricks and mortar stores and expanding in generational terms. Before long, we’ll be facing five generations in the workplace at once.

“We know that it’s a time of transition for this generation of jewelers, which is a big issue. Plus, our marketplace is changing rapidly,” said Centurion president Howard Hauben. “We’re pleased to offer our new Generations track to address these relevant issues.” Here are the three Generations sessions at the upcoming Centurion Show:

Generations: Planning for Store Succession, with Bill Boyajian and Ira Bergman, The Gordon Co., (and Dan Pharr, Pharr Valuations, on Monday Only)

Jewelry business owners today are, on average, 50, with many in their 60s and 70s. The need to address an orderly transition of family and non-family jewelry businesses is of paramount importance. This workshop will cover financial considerations and the various options for the next steps to evolve your business.

Generations: Both Sides of the Counter: Dealing with Perspectives from Matures to Post-Millennials with Kate Peterson, Performance Concepts, LLC

Working with and selling to many demographic groups can be challenging for any jewelry business. Estimates show your sales staff may be interacting with up to five generational groups, each with their own characteristics. Join Kate as she helps you navigate this wide-ranging topic, allowing your staff to work and sell better.

Both these sessions will run twice (Sunday and Monday, January 29 and 30, from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m.) so attendees have an opportunity to hear each one.

Our Generations Panel (Sunday, January 29, from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.) will talk about work issues, succession planning, and multi-generational workplaces.

Featuring superstar retailers and frank discussions, this lively panel will be moderated by Jeffrey Roseman, CEO of David Harvey Jewelers, Norwalk, CT and Adjunct Professor,

Fairfield University Dolan School of Business, Management Department. Don’t miss this most interesting discussion, perfect for both family and non-family businesses!
