Merrick, NY—While you may spring clean your house or store annually, did you know that freshening up your website, and your brand, should be your newest annual tradition?

It’s easy to ignore your website. It doesn’t walk in front of you every day and you don’t have to look at it unless you want to. It’s easy to forget about. But the Internet is a live, active place that is constantly changing and websites that are out-of-date really stick out. Your customers will notice. Your website needs a quick—and cheap—way to look fresh. Think of it like spraying Febreze in your home.

Internet marketing consultant and author Naomi Dunford (left) of IttyBiz shows you twelve ways to easily make the update without having to overhaul your online branding from top to bottom.

Here are three low cost/no cost ways to spruce up your website, straight from IttyBiz. For Naomi’s full list of a dozen ways, click here for the full article.

Give your cover images a makeover. In a social media obsessed world, your social media cover images are often the first impression a new person has of you and your brand. Could yours use some work? (Editor’s note: Why not check in with your favorite suppliers for some new, gorgeous artwork/images? They would be happy to share.)

Crisp up your fonts. Switching fonts has never been easier, says Dunford. Simply do a web search for “best Google font combinations” and dozens of ambitious designers will help you find the perfect combo for you. If your site is on the older side, this has the added benefit of improving readability—screen resolutions are sharper than ever, and a crisp new font will make your site much easier on the eyes.

Remember that bigger fonts are better, especially for body text. They can’t read it if they can’t see it.

Find the perfect brand palette. Dunford shares a secret: for many years, the entire WordPress theme industry operated on the hidden understanding that when an average user saw “a website”, what they actually saw was “a unique collection of colors”. That’s how everybody Internet had the same theme and nobody noticed. If you simply change your color scheme, you can change your entire look. Dunford also has a Pinterest board for website color schemes. Find a picture you like, pick two or three of the colors, wham! New branding. (Editor’s note: while changing color can freshen up your website, bear in mind that it’s important to maintain consistency across all your brand touchpoints, so don’t drop your signature color unless you’re planning to change your color scheme altogether. But a new accent color can help update the site.)
