Jimmy DeGroot: I’m Terrible with Social Media March 28, 2024 (0 comments)

Green Bay, WI--Scroll through your Facebook feed and pay attention to one thing. When you stop and actually look at a post, answer the question, “Why did I stop on this?” The very reason you stopped and looked at whatever it is, is what you need to be doing in your posts.

The reason I’m terrible at Facebook is because I, like so many people, like to see what’s going on with my contacts and I don’t like to post about myself, so, I end up posting about my podcast or an occasional training video.

We all know we need to be using social media for our business and so many of us have old school thinking, which tends to be advertising or promotion. But you probably notice you just scroll past anything that looks promotional, unless it’s of course your favorite something or something.

Some of the best jewelers I see in my feed are George Fritz at Mill’s Jewelers, Kyle Bullock at Bullock’s, George Poe at Whitestone Fine Jewelry and John Carter at Jack Lewis Jewelers. They post fun and interesting videos and pictures that show themselves to be truly human and if there’s a little promo thrown in there, I don’t mind because they make it fun and engaging.

Just think about this very simple concept the next time you make any social media post. “Would I stop scrolling to look at this post?” If the answer is yes, now you will begin to see engagement and response to your posts. And yes, I know I need to take my own advice. Perhaps I’ll make a video of me singing a little song about the need for more engaging Facebook posts.
