A report in Yahoo News stated that despite initial delays due to aggressive timelines and material shortages, Shinola prioritized delivering a  quality consumer experience, leading to the postponed opening.

Per the report, the store's establishment follows sustained efforts by city leaders, including Richard App, the city's retail retention and attraction specialist, who recognized Shinola's alignment with Grand Rapids' values of quality and community involvement.

“We’re excited to see what kind of a positive economic impact that Shinola will bring to our downtown to Shinola,” App said in the report. “Your commitment to craftsmanship, quality and community aligned seamlessly with the values that we hold dear here in Grand Rapids.”

Shinola's Vice President of Merchandising, Planning, and Direct to Consumer, Scott Zimmerman, highlighted the brand's focus on timeless American design and durable products.

“We’re really excited to be here,” he said, per the report. “We’re excited to be part of the community, participate in community events like the World of Winter festival. So this is a great day for us, and we’re excited to be part of the community here in Grand Rapids.”

The brand's commitment to American manufacturing is evident in its Detroit-based watch factory, the first new watch facility in the U.S. in over 50 years.

With the opening, Shinola aims to integrate into the Grand Rapids community, participating in local events and contributing to the city's economic and social fabric.
