Fairfield, CT—Harvey Lester Roseman, founder of David Harvey Jewelers with stores in Darien and Norwalk, CT, died December 2. He was 92.

Roseman, a second-generation jeweler, was born in Detroit. His parents, jewelers Frederick and Anna Roseman, bought Gleason Jewelers in Bridgeport, CT in 1946 and Harvey Roseman—fresh out of service in the U.S. Army in WWII—joined them in the business.

In 1963, Harvey Roseman and his wife, Renée, purchased David Pinkas Jewelers, a longtime merchant in Norwalk, CT. To honor the original owners, Harvey Roseman combined his name and theirs, and David Harvey Jewelers was born. Under Harvey and Renée’s guidance, the store experienced tremendous growth and added many prestige watch and giftware brands, including Rolex, Omega, Waterford, and Lenox, as well as sterling flatware and more.

In 1980, Harvey and Renée’s youngest son Jeff became the third generation Roseman to join David Harvey Jewelers, though he’d been working there and serving customers from the age of eight. He oversaw a massive expansion in 1991, doubling the size of the showroom to 5,000 square feet. Jeff Roseman’s son Ben, and daughter-in-law Kayli joined the firm in 2005, making it a fourth-generation jewelry store that now is 102 years old. They were instrumental in opening David Harvey’s second location in Darien as well as taking the retailer online.

Harvey Roseman was an active community leader in the city of Norwalk and in its chamber of commerce. In his spare time, he had a passion for the sport of horseracing, from handicapping the entrants to hopefully having the winning numbers for that day's Trifecta. He loved entertaining friends and family at his home on the beach as well.

Roseman is survived by his beloved wife Renée, sons Jeffrey (Debby), David, and Kenneth; grandchildren Benjamin Roseman (Kayli), Drew Roseman (Ashley), Emily Roseman Tillett (Ty), Tori Roseman, Julia Roseman, Lydia Roseman and great-grandchildren Zachary and Jacob. Donations may be made in Roseman’s memory to Congregation Beth-El Fairfield, CT.
