The Month In Review: March March 30, 2016 (0 comments)
Merrick, NY—March was a busy month for the jewelry industry, beginning with the Oscars—the jewelry industry’s version of Fashion Week. Diamond prices seem to have hit bottom and business at both the Hong Kong and the Baselworld fairs was a bit better than many expected, though the terrorist attacks in Brussels resulted in a security clampdown in Basel and sent a frisson of alarm through the diamond community, which travels in and out of the Zaventem airport regularly en route to Antwerp.
Bombs weren’t the only thing sending a frisson of worry through the diamond community, as a confluence of events suggests synthetic diamonds are on the verge of becoming a real market force. (More news on that front from GIA hit just as this week's edition of The Centurion Newsletter went to press.) The WJA In The Know conference highlighted key market trends that will impact the jewelry industry, and one Texas jeweler bucked the trend and moved upscale in a tough economy.
