Last Call: Deadline for Palladium Press Opportunity Event is Tomorrow

Sherman Oaks, CA—The Palladium Alliance International is putting together two special events, one East coast, and one West coast, for stylists, editors, producers, managers, agents, and others to view palladium jewelry available for the awards season and for editorial use in print and broadcast.

The Los Angeles event will take place December 5-6 at the Jose Eber Salon, and the New York event at PAI’s showroom. During both events, PAI will work on behalf of designers to secure placement both for red carpet events and for upcoming print editorial or broadcast features.

Participation in the program is free and jewelry will be insured by PAI for the duration of the time it is in possession and on display. All jewelry must be sent to the PAI office in Los Angeles by December 2, and will be returned by December 13. Pieces submitted will be on display at both the LA and New York events.

PAI said in a release that among the attendees will be editors from InStyle, W, and Harpers Bazaar, and producers of Ellen, Extra, and Access. Others expected to attend include stylists for shows such as So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol, and Dancing With the Stars.

Big Stones Still Setting Auction Records

Geneva, Switzerland—Sotheby’s set a world record for a yellow diamond sale November 15, with the 110.03-ct. Sundrop Diamond, which sold for approximately $12,361,558. The stone ranks as the largest known fancy vivid yellow pear-shape diamond in the world. In total, the November 15 sale came in just under estimates, at CHF 64,048,000 (U.S. $70,173,551) against pre-sale estimates of CHF 65-93 million.

Meanwhile, nine of the top 10 lots sold at Christie’s Important Jewels auction in London on November 29 beat pre-sale estimates, many by double or more. Only one lot in the top 10—a Graff diamond pendant necklace with an initial estimate between £190,000 and £270,000—that sold for £193,000, did not exceed estimates. At Christies Magnificent Jewels auction held the same day in Hong Kong, a world’s record was set for a pair of 25.38- and 23.12-ct. cushion-shaped Colombian emerald ear pendants, which sold for U.S. $83,000 per carat.

 

Boucheron Appoints New Marketing Director

Paris, France—Boucheron has appointed Louis de Meckenheim as its new marketing director, according to Women’s Wear Daily. De Meckenheim comes from neighboring Place Vendome jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels, where he was in charge of marketing for watches. At Boucheron, he will be in charge of product offerings and branding.

Los Angeles—Actress Rebecca Romijn was spotted wearing Brumani jewelry on Extra at The Grove, October 27. She chose earrings from the “Looping Shine Casual” collection in pink and white gold with round diamond and crystal, and a necklace from the “Baobab Casual” collection in pink and white gold with round diamonds and white moonstone.

DDI Appoints Syvrud to Promote Friends Program

Ottawa, Canada—The Diamond Development Initiative has retained Patricia Syvrud, founder and president of Joia Consulting LLC to head up program development for its Friends of DDI initiative.

DDI works to brings the jewelry industry, non-governmental organizations, and governments together in a common effort to ensure that diamonds become an engine for economic development. DDI complements the Kimberley Process by fostering business development solutions alongside KP regulatory requirements. Support for DDI programs comes from governments, other institutional donors, and global jewelry industry entities.

The new Friends of DDI program encourages jewelry retailers, designers, manufacturers and suppliers to support DDI’s work on the ground in mining communities, and demonstrate to their customers and constituents that the industry is making a positive impact on the lives of the people who mine diamonds by artisanal methods.

 

Ganz Honored for Service to Diamantaires

Tel Aviv, Israel—Moti Ganz, who has served as president of the Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association (IsDMA) for the past seven years, has been elected honorary president in recognition of his contributions to the organization during his term of office. He remains president of the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) and chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI). Incoming IsDMA president Bumi Traub said the organization became much stronger under Ganz’s leadership.
