Smart Show Goes to the Dogs To Raise Money for SDF

Chicago, IL—The SMART Jewelry Show, set for April 21-23 at the Navy Pier in Chicago, invites independent jewelers to demonstrate why their four-footed sales associate deserves top honors in the industry’s Top Dog competition.

Now in its second year, the SMART America’s Top Dog competition is a fun way to highlight an interesting trend in the industry: store owners who decide to make their dog a key part of the brand. But this year the contest also has a more serious side: all proceeds from the $15 contestant entry fees, plus a matching grant up to $1,000 from sponsor GE Capital Luxury, will benefit the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF).

This extraordinary organization rescues dogs from shelters, professionally trains them to find humans buried under rubble during disasters, then donates the dogs to fire departments and other first responders.

Not only does SDF provide this service for free, they ensure the care of the dogs for their entire lives. Never again will an SDF dog see the inside of a shelter.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this great contest once again, and are especially excited about the addition of all proceeds going to a tremendous charity," says Shelly Schulz of GE Capital Luxury. "Good luck to all, and may the best pooch win!"

America’s Top Dog will be determined from total votes cast on the show floor at the Top Dog SMART Station. A winner in a second category, National Search Dog Special Choice Award, will also be selected. Voting ends at 11 a.m. on April 23 and the winner will be announced at 12:30 p.m. the same day.
