Le Vian Launches Luxury Handbags, Shoes, Accessories

Vicenza, Italy—With a proclamation that jewelry brands need to extend beyond just jewelry into lifestyle, Eddie Le Vian, CEO of the eponymous jewelry company, formally announced the brand’s launch of a full line of accessories, including shoes, handbags, scarves, and small leather goods. The line, called Le Vian Luxury, debuted at a fashion show held last Sunday at the Vicenza fair in Italy.

The line will be made in Italy, and feature jewel-inspired embellishments such as metallic threads and hand-painted watercolor images in pashminas and scarves, and the use of gemstones and precious metal in the handbags. In the “Iconic Collection” of handbags, the Le Vian logo will be embedded with a five-carat genuine gemstone.

“The future of the jewelry business is not to be an island but to speak to the woman in a language she understands,” he said. Prices for the handbags are reported to begin around $300, with many of the smaller items being gem-set in homage to the firm’s roots.

Le Vian joins an elite group of other luxe jewelers who have expanded into accessories: Barry Kieselstein-Cord was one of the first to introduce bags more than two decades ago; adorned with his signature bold gold in the clasps and décor; usually his iconic alligator. Designers Kara Ross and Emily Armenta also offer jewelry-inspired bags. Ivanka Trump, meanwhile, is a full-fledged lifestyle brand, offering apparel, outerwear, shoes, and sunglasses, as well as fine jewelry.

Tiffany & Co. introduced bags about five years ago and for a brief period both Birks Jewellers in Canada and its American branch Mayors offered leather goods in their private-label Birks Boutique collection. Other famous fashion houses such as Chanel and Ralph Lauren also offer both bags and haute jewels.
