First Lady Michelle Obama Wears Le Vian To Last State Dinner
Washington, DC—For the last state dinner President Obama will host in the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama (left) wore a show-stopping rose gold chainmail dress from Versace, accessorized with color-coordinated Peach Morganite earrings and a ring from Le Vian. The dinner was in honor of Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini.
Like Britain’s Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, Obama is known not only for her fashion sense overall and frequent mixes of designer and mass brands, but also for honoring a visiting or host country by wearing clothing by its designers. Versace, of course, is Italian. Obama wore a gown by Vera Wang (of Chinese ancestry) for the state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, a gown by American-based Japanese designer Tadashi Shoji for the state dinner for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and a gown by Canadian designer Jason Wu to welcome new Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie.
