Merrick, NY--Six crimes in five states have happened recently in jewelry stores. Read on for the details as well as any recommendations from the Jewelers Security Alliance to observe to help foil would-be thieves.

SUSPECT RUNS WITH GOLD CHAIN, PENDANT AND DIAMOND RING
Moreno Valley, CA; September 5, 2021

The black male suspect pictured above approached the gates of a mall retail jewelry store and asked if they could open early so he could pick up a chain he had been shown on a previous visit. The store declined to open early, and the suspect returned when the store later opened.

The suspect was shown the gold chain he said he had seen, and was also shown a gold lion pendant. The suspect then asked to see a third item, a gold and diamond ring. When the suspect had all three items in his possession, he ran from the store.

The suspect is described as 20 years old, 5 feet and 8 inches, 130 lbs. with short dreadlocks with light highlights. If you have information, contact JSA at 212-687-0328 or jsa2@jewelerssecurity.org.

Recommendation: Show only one item at a time.


SUSPECT IN THEFT OF $17,000 GOLD CHAIN
North Attleboro, MA; September 7, 2021

Police are looking for the white male suspect pictured above who is suspected in the theft of a $17,000 gold chain from a mall retail jewelry store. If you have information, contact JSA a 212-687-0328 or jsa2@jewelerssecurity.org.


SUSPECT PALMS GOLD CHAIN
Raleigh, NC area; September 4, 2021

The black male suspect pictured above asked to see gold chains in a retail jewelry store, and kept asking to see multiple pieces to confuse the sales associate. During the confusion, the suspect was able to palm a chain and put it in his pocket.

The suspect is described as 35 to 40 years old, 5 feet and 8 inches, with a medium build. If you have information, contact JSA at 212-687-0328 or jsa2@jewelerssecurity.org.

Recommendation: Distraction thieves will repeatedly ask to see multiple items in order to create confusion. Show only one item at a time, and put each item back in the showcase after being shown.
 

SUSPECT RUNS WITH GOLD CHAIN
West Nyack, NY; September 11, 2021

The black male suspect pictured above asked to try on some merchandise and a sales associate said she would be right with him when she finished with another customer. The suspect left the store, but returned shortly after and asked to see 14 karat gold pieces. He asked to try on a chain and a crucifix. When the sales associate had the item pieced together, the suspect grabbed the item and ran from the store.

SUSPECT IN BURGLARY OF JEWELRY STORE
Bastrop, LA; September 9, 2021

DISTRACTION THIEF PUTS BOTH HANDS IN SHOWCASE
Raleigh, NC area; August 27, 2021

The black male suspect pictured above was shown several items in succession from a showcase. When the suspect asked to see another item, the sales associate reached in the case, and the suspect put his right hand in the showcase to point out an item, and used his left hand to take out an item which he put in his pocket.
