Los Angeles, CA--A group of thieves tunneled through concrete walls to steal approximately $20 million of gold, jewels and cash from a downtown Los Angeles jewelry store from store displays and two safes inside the store.

The son of Love Jewels on the 500 block of Broadway, who requested anonymity, reportedly told CBS affiliate KCAL News that the burglars broke into a vacant property adjacent to his family’s store around 10 p.m. Sunday night. The number of thieves is unknown.

The robbery wasn’t discovered until employees and owners came to open the store Monday morning.

The same person told Los Angeles news station, KTLA, that the thieves were likely a professional crew, they were probably drilling several nights before breaking into the store, and they disabled the shop’s cameras and alarm system. In addition, he reportedly said that the store did not have insurance because they could not afford it.

The owners are reportedly offering a $100,000 reward for any information about the burglary.
