Elegance And Very Sellable Jewelry A Hallmark Of The Emmys |  August 27, 2014 (0 comments)

Los Angeles, CA—Yes, you really can sell the exact same jewelry that Hollywood stars wear. Lots of well-known jewelry brands showed up on the red carpet for Monday night’s 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live. (And, given that most of the stars borrow their jewelry for the evening, chances are you really can sell the exact pair of earrings that graced famous lobes.)

We’re happy to report that the predominant trends for both dresses and jewelry at the Emmys are not just covetable, but repeatable off the red carpet. While some in the fashion press, such as Women’s Wear Daily, may have bemoaned the overall effect as “safe,” from a retailer’s perspective it was refreshing to see looks that might actually inspire a real-life purchase. With the exception of Lena Dunham (Girls), whose fluffy pink Giambattista Valli skirt and cotton camp shirt just went horribly wrong, the evening’s looks featured a host of elegant frocks that befit such an occasion, worn by stars showing good taste and respect for the event instead of in-your-face “what was she thinking?” getups.

Sharon Stone (left) nailed the white-shirt-and-ball-skirt look in 1998. Lena Dunham (right), not so much.

And the jewelry was the same. Of course the red carpet is the time to pull out all the jewelry stops, so while even the grandest of grand society might not get quite as lavish for a local soiree, you get the idea. For example, where Mad Men bombshell Christina Hendricks donned massive gold earbobs, your customers' take might be more of an entry hall light rather than dining-hall chandeliers.

Christina Hendricks' massive gold chandelier earrings by Neil Lane via Lovegold.com echoed the embellishment on her dress. To make a statement, go all out with this proportion, but the style also would work well in a smaller version.

Of course there were the usual contingent of stars wearing pieces from top Hollywood jewelers and international jewelry houses, but there were just as many wearing designs from popular and accessible brands. Jewelers will have no trouble translating star style for customers with these looks:

Madeline Brewer of Orange is the New Black wore a blue topaz ring from Bellarri's “Diva Collection." Bellarri also dressed Emmy winner Noah Hawley, writer and producer of Fargo, who wore the designer’s diamond cuff links, while Ashley Baumann, producer for The Voice, wore an amethyst duo of earrings from Bellarri’s “Carmen Collection” and ring from the “Diva Collection.”
