The jewelry business was founded on April 12, 1935, by G. Moseley and J.D. Galloway at 36 S. Main St., the report noted. Ownership and operations have since passed through generations, with Britton Moseley, son of G.B. Moseley, now serving as co-owner and vice president. Danny Chandler, who was hired by G.B. Moseley, shares ownership and holds the position of president. Chandler has been with the store for 51 of its 90 years, per the report.
In 1980, Galloway and Moseley relocated to 444 N. Guignard Drive, transitioning from leasing to owning a brick-and-mortar location. The move was described as a defining moment for both the business and Britton Moseley, who pursued formal training at the Gemological Institute of America before officially joining the family business, according to The Sumter Item.
Since becoming equal partners in 1996, Moseley and Chandler expanded the business into Florence in 2006. Both locations maintain the standards of quality, craftsmanship, and customer service established by the founders, the report highlighted.
Technological advancements have transformed the jewelry-making process at Galloway and Moseley. While wax molds were once carved by hand, the store now uses 3D-printed molds to craft custom pieces based on customer ideas and designs, the report stated.
Despite industry changes, the company’s focus on customer service and community involvement remains central. Employees are held to high standards to continue serving multi-generational customers.
Galloway and Moseley are also active members of local organizations including the Rotary Club and Sumter Merchants Association, as noted by the article.
