Royal Oak, MI--Gem Legacy, a 501c3 nonprofit that supports vocational training, entrepreneurship, and community development in East African colored gemstone mining regions, has launched a separate, for-profit travel company, Gem Legacy Adventures, to offer guided tours of Gem Legacy initiatives, animal safaris, and immersion in East African culture.

The profits from Gem Legacy Adventures will cover its nonprofit administrative costs, ensuring that 100% of every donation goes direct to the initiatives. Travelers are not required to be members of the jewelry industry. However, Gem Legacy anticipates interest from members of the jewelry industry who may want to visit gem mining at the source, to speak more authoritatively about it, or to address responsible gem mining questions.

The trips will focus on visiting Gem Legacy initiatives, including several artisanal gem mines, as well as exploring the surrounding culture and national parks. Each trip will also include a service project day at one of the Gem Legacy initiatives.

The first Gem Legacy Adventures trip is scheduled for July 21-30, in Northern Tanzania and Southern Kenya. Twelve spots are available.
