As per the release, the updated reports will feature a revised layout intended to present core gemological information more clearly for trade and consumer use.
GIA will add origin-determination services for opal, peridot, and demantoid garnet. The release noted that these additions build on existing country-of-origin services for alexandrite, emerald, Paraíba tourmaline, red spinel, ruby, sapphire, and untreated jadeite jade and omphacite jade from Myanmar (Burma) or Guatemala.
"Our expanded services are based on GIA's extensive research and collection of 32,000 samples collected by GIA field gemologists," said Shane McClure, global director of colored stone services, as cited in the release.
GIA will also revise weight categories and related fees for colored stone submissions. According to the release, details of the updated structure will be published on GIA.edu on Jan. 1, 2026.
The release stated that the new weight categories, fees, and redesigned reports will apply to items submitted on or after Jan. 1, 2026.
