HOT SEATS! ONLY A FEW SEATS LEFT FOR AGS CIRCLE OF DISTINCTION AND WJA AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE July 13, 2011 (0 comments)

New York, NY—Tickets for the 11th American Gem Society Circle of Distinction are almost sold out. The dinner is set for Tuesday, July 26, at New York’s legendary Plaza Hotel. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and awards presentations at 7 p.m.

The 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to David and Sybil Yurman of David Yurman. David Yurman is the designer of the eponymous jewelry brand, his wife Sybil is chief marketing officer.

Additionally, this year’s recipients of the Triple Zero Award will be Kathryn Kimmel, chief marketing officer of GIA (Gemological Institute of America), and David Rocha, executive director of Jewelers for Children.

Ruth Batson, executive director and CEO of AGS, said, “We’re so pleased to honor David and Sybil Yurman, who have created one of the world’s most recognizable jewelry brands; David Rocha, a tireless advocate for a beloved charity among the AGS membership; and Kathryn Kimmel, who has led the way in marketing and PR at one of the industry's most respected institutions.” Batson told The Centurion that the dinner is expected to be a sellout; only a few seats were left at press time.

Tickets also are going fast for the Women’s Jewelry Association 28th Annual Awards for Excellence, set for Monday, July 25 at Pier Sixty Restaurant at the Chelsea Piers.

This year’s gala will honor Varda Shine, CEO of the Diamond Trading Company, with the 2011 WJA Hall of Fame Award. The Ben Kaiser Award, given to a man in the industry who has been instrumental in the development and empowerment of women, will be presented to Matt Stuller of Stuller, and the Corporate Award for Excellence will be presented to Helzberg Diamonds.

Awards also will be presented in the categories of design, manufacturing, retailing, sales and merchandising, marketing and communications, media, and special services.
