JBT Offers Help With Mobile App

Warwick, RI—The Jewelers Board of Trade (JBT) announces a new 'How To' video for users to learn about the online Red Book Mobile App before purchase, or ensure they are getting the most out of it after purchase. The app, for both Android and Apple platforms, allows access to the JBT Red Book “on the go,” making critical business information available from anywhere.

"I use it all the time," said Brian Fleming of Providence, RI-based Carla Corp. "Whether I'm on the road doing homework before a call or want to stop by another client after, the GPS proximity locator works well. I've used it since February and absolutely have gotten my money's worth. It's up to date with credit ratings. Besides on the road, I used it at a recent show. Boom! I can easily get an instant result by zip code. "

The Red Book Mobile App’s search engines allows users to call up company names, addresses and credit ratings for specific geographic territories. Information is searchable by name, zip code, city and proximity, and business type. Users can instantly view a company’s location on a map, phone the company with the “Dial Now” feature, add and email customized notes for each company, and create a list of 'Favorites'.

JBT President Dione Kenyon says, “Our members need easy, instant access, especially on the road, to identify and reach potential customers. Our members tell us it has greatly enhanced their effectiveness in the field."

Red Book Mobile Apps (Full and Sectional) can be customized by territory, including the 50 U.S. States, Canada, Washington, D.C., New York City, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. JBT Red Books contain over 30,000 jewelry retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers in the U.S. Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

NAJA Suggests Code of Conduct Around Laboratory Grading Reports

Rosemont, IL--At the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) recent conference, David Atlas, GG, the group’s chair of ethical issues, presented a suggested code of conduct for NAJA appraisers on how to deal with diamonds accompanied by any variety of lab grading documents.

Since recent actions by Rapaport addressing EGL lab reports, appraisers need to know how to agree, or disagree (mildly or strongly) with a document, how to concisely word their appraisal report to show their own opinion, and how they arrived at the value, without unnecessary denigrating comments or creation of needless fear and anxiety for the jewelry consumer.

Appraisers also discussed how to successfully address the problem of determining a proper retail price for branded product, and what valid alternative approaches to value exist in potentially volatile matters that reflect upon the integrity of the entire jewelry industry.

NAJA is the largest membership association specializing exclusively in gem and jewelry appraising and related appraisal issues.  It offers education and networking opportunities with knowledgeable appraisal professionals.  For further information, contact Gail Brett Levine, GG, executive director, (718) 896-1536 or email: naja.appraisers@netzero.net.
