G&G Now Available on iPad

Carlsbad, CA—Gems & Gemology, the quarterly peer-reviewed research journal of GIA (Gemological Institute of America) now is available for iPad. Complementing the printed version with enhanced digital content, it is downloadable for free on iTunes. The app will be enriched with exclusive content, including gem-related videos and interviews with industry experts.

“Research on peer-reviewed journals shows that those available electronically have the potential to significantly increase their impact,” said Donna Baker, president and CEO of GIA. “By reaching a broader readership, we can have a greater influence on the field of gemology.”

The Spring 2012 issue is the first G&G available on the app and focuses on a recently discovered emerald deposit in northern Brazil and a review of properties and durability of a recent diamond imitation, coated colorless cubic zirconia. It also includes coverage of this year’s Tucson shows and the results of the Dr. Edward J. Gübelin Most Valuable Article Awards, as well as the G&G Challenge quiz which gives readers a chance to test their gemological knowledge.

“The interactive and intuitive nature of this app, combined with its portability, makes keeping up with gemology fun and easy,” said Jan Iverson, editor-in-chief of G&G. “The print issue will remain, so the iPad app is really an extension of our educational outreach.” Print issue subscriptions are now available, and a free desktop version is planned for release later this year.

New Presentation Kit Turns Business Cards Into Marketing Vehicle

Weston, FL—What does your business card say about your store? What if you could enhance a simple business card to a miniature presentation about your store?

Porte Marketing offers a business card folder and/or booklet that can communicate your services, guarantees and credentials. Each four-by-six inch booklet is customized for your store and is available as a folder only ($1.25 each), or folder plus four, eight, 12, or 16 inside pages (starting at $1.50 each). The booklet is also available as a digital flipbook for use in a jeweler’s email marketing, on the home page of the store website, links on its Facebook page, and mobile apps. The hard cover folder can include a special gift card for services, repairs and jewelry, available on card stock or plastic.

Most consumers expect a jeweler to offer repair, appraisals, and watch battery replacements, says Porte, but the presentation package can help promote features such as overseas buying trips, weather guarantee promotions, responsible jewelry sourcing, specialized repairs, custom design, consignment, collateral loans, engraving, plating, watch repair, ring sizing, trade in or trade up programs, while-you-wait repairs, pearl stringing, gemological services, jeweler credentials, various awards won, and more. For more information, contact James Porte at (800) 444-6112, email jporte01@aol.com, or click here.
