As per a report by Campaign, the one-day event, titled "The Ex-Change," takes place Feb. 14 at select locations.
Participants can exchange a single piece of unwanted jewelry for a half-carat lab-grown diamond necklace set in 14-carat yellow gold over silver. The transaction is a flat trade requiring no additional purchase. Inventory is limited to the first 100 customers at the retailer’s Garden City, N.Y., flagship and the first 50 customers at other participating stores.
All collected items will be donated to Good360, a nonprofit that redistributes surplus goods.
For online shoppers, JCPenney is running a concurrent "Perfect Ex-Cuse Discount" through Feb. 16, offering price reductions on jewelry using the code EXCUSE. The campaign was developed with creative agency Mischief @ No Fixed Address.
