According to Rolex’s statement highlighted by Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actor is celebrated not only for his career in Hollywood but also for his commitment to sustainability. The brand highlighted DiCaprio’s efforts through the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which he established in 1998 to support wildlife protection and environmental causes. The foundation has funded global conservation initiatives and has been involved in producing environmental documentaries such as Before the Flood (2016) and Ice on Fire (2019). DiCaprio also serves as a United Nations Messenger of Peace, using his platform to address climate change at global summits.

Rolex has a history of aligning with figures who promote causes beyond their primary professions. The brand emphasized this aspect in its announcement, noting DiCaprio’s previous support for sustainability efforts in the watch industry, including his 2023 partnership with Swiss watchmaker ID Genève.

The report noted that watch enthusiasts had already speculated about DiCaprio’s involvement with Rolex after spotting him in the company’s latest “Reach for the Crown” campaign, where he appears twice in the promotional video. The ad will air during the 2025 Academy Awards, alongside another Rolex advertisement focused on its sponsorship of the film industry.

According to the report, Rolex has sponsored the Academy Awards since 2017 and is a founding supporter of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The brand has also cultivated relationships with several figures in the arts, including filmmaker James Cameron, who became a Testimonee in 2012, and director Martin Scorsese, who has been associated with Rolex since 2017. Scorsese has also participated in the Rolex Mentor & Protégé Arts Initiative, a program that connects emerging artists with industry veterans.
