Let’s Talk: How Important Bathroom Design is for your Jewelry StoreMay 06, 2023 (0 comments)
|West Bloomfield, MI--In terms of interior design, the restroom should be an integral part of the whole jewelry store. A stylish, well-decorated bathroom can make a big statement to clients and employees. So, when I am designing or remodeling a jewelry store the bathroom is an essential element to coordinate with the showroom.
At Kelley Jewelers in Weatherford, OK, which I designed, we chose a white tile brick that went from floor to ceiling on the wall behind the sink and toilet. The sidewalls are a large-scaled tile also going from the floor to ceiling. An added detail is 1-inch by 4-inch glass tiles that create a stripe down the walls. The gold bar lights match the gold faucet. The highly patterned porcelain floor adds an extra design splash to the bathroom. See the two pictures below of Kelley Jewelers.

The men’s bathroom at Williams Jewelers in Englewood, CO, has a unique masculine feel that I designed. See below Williams Jewelers bathroom picture. The tile goes up to half of the wall with a decorative tile border. The tone of the highly textured large mirror compliments the color palette in the room. The scones coordinate with the overall design. For the women’s bathroom at Williams Jewelers, I used a white porcelain tile that had 1-carat Swarovski diamond-shaped crystals imbedded into the tile, making the entire wall sparkle.

HOW TO MAKE A COMMERCIAL BATHROOM look beautiful:
1) Proper mirror placement DESIGN:
MIRRORS NEED TO BE PLACES 35’ ABOVE THE FLOOR (ADA)
IT IS NICE TO SEE DIFFERENT SHAPES OF MIRRORS (FOR EXAMPLE, SEE THE OVAL SHAPE MIRROR I DESIGNED IN KELLEYS JEWELERS. TRY TO OVERSIZE THE MIRRORS ALONG WITH HAVING DECORATIVE FRAME TO CREATE A “WOW”
2) REFLECTIVE SURFACES ON THE COUNTER TOPS: USE SOLID SURFACE MATERIAL, GRANITE ON THE COUNTER TOPS TO CREATE AN UPSCALE FEEL
3) USE PAINT AND WALLPAPER ON YOUR BATHRROM WALLS: Be creative with your color scheme. You can put paint or wall covering on the walls in the color scheme of the showroom. This will enhance the effect of the overall feel. For example, see the picture of Lucido’s Fine Jewelry store I designed in Rochester, MI, you will see the navy cabinet which matches the navy wall covering in the bathroom. The wallcovering seen in the picture is like some of the colors on the walls of the showroom. Adding an art piece gives a more residential feel to the room.

4) CONSIDER RECESS LIGHTING ALONG WITH DECORATIVE LIGHTING TO CREATE THE MOOD: The way recessed lighting placement is installed can have a big influence on whatever space feels. Many times, my clients will have a dimmer switch that they use to darken the over lighting. Lighting such as chandeliers, flush mounts, and scones on either side of the mirror makes a huge impact.
Other bathroom items to incorporate and help your bathroom design:
- Upgrade your toilet paper.
- Splurge on hand soap and lotion.
- Trash cans are one of the most common freestanding objects. Make sure it coordinates with the color scheme and is an excellent quality added element of the space.
- Make sure the bathroom has a pleasant smell.
You need to pay attention to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and implement them into your design.
- Mirror Height. To accommodate everyone, mirrors cannot be too high. If they are above the sink, the bottom edge cannot be higher than 40 inches above the floor. Mirrors not above the sink cannot be higher than 35 inches off the ground.
- Overall size of the bathroom must be a 30-inch by 48-inch rectangle of access in front of your sinks. There must be a turning circle of 60 inches in the center of the bathroom. All this is intended to make sure individuals in wheelchairs can access the bathroom. All the above is to follow the cities ADA codes.
Bathroom interior design is an art. The bathroom design ideas that you implement transforms the image of your jewelry store.
