Jackson, MS--Maison Weiss, a long-standing retailer in Highland Village known for women’s fashion, jewelry, and beauty products, has transferred ownership. Founded in 1975 by Nell and Bernard Weiss, the business has been acquired by sisters Liz Mavar Spratlin and Claire Mavar Porter, originally from Biloxi.
According to The Hattiesburg News, the previous owners, Ken and Tracy Szilasi, along with their daughter Gabrielle Hammett, managed the boutique for 40 years. Ken Szilasi expressed gratitude to the founders and employees, stating that the new owners are the "perfect team" to continue the store's legacy. The Szilasis took over operations in 1985 and expanded the brand, including the addition of a second location, MW Squared, in Oxford.
The report notes that Liz Spratlin brings over 15 years of retail experience from her previous store, Blithe & Vine. Spratlin stated that owning a large-scale boutique like Maison Weiss is a "dream come true" and emphasized a seamless transition with the former owners. Claire Porter, a former attorney and Chairman of the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Commission, also expressed enthusiasm for maintaining the customer experience.
Tracy Szilasi remarked on the fulfillment found in serving multiple generations of customers and the Jackson community. The former owners plan to retire and travel.
