TOKYO, Japan--Academy Award–winning actress Michelle Yeoh is the face of Mikimoto’s new global advertising campaign celebrating the origins of the cultured pearl industry.

Titled “1893 – Time on a String –,” the campaign centers on the year Mikimoto founder Kokichi Mikimoto successfully created the world’s first cultured pearl. The company said the campaign is a tribute to the timeless beauty of Mikimoto pearls that accompany people throughout their lives and through generations.

“This historic achievement not only transformed the future of gemstones but also marked the beginning of Mikimoto’s legacy as the originator of cultured pearls,” the company said in a statement. “More than a date, 1893 represents the foundation of the brand—an enduring symbol of innovation, craftsmanship and the harmonious relationship between humans and nature.”

The campaign underscores the significance of that milestone year while reaffirming the house’s heritage and renewed focus on its most iconic creation: the pearl necklace. The phrase “Time on a String” reflects the idea of a legacy unfolding over time, “as if stringing pearls together to connect past, present and future,” the company said.
