Monica Rich Kosann Partners with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, on Fine Jewelry Collection October 15, 2025 (0 comments)
New York, NY--Fine jeweler Monica Rich Kosann and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), have partnered on a limited-edition collection of three charm necklaces.
Inspired by 18th and 19th century tsuba—decorative guards for the swords used by Japanese samurai—the pieces, available in 18K yellow gold and sterling silver with diamonds and white sapphires, are modern representations of a traditional design symbolizing protection and the spirit of a fearless warrior.
“The tsuba are an important object of Japanese culture; they are ancient yet beautifully decorated pieces meant to empower the wearer which really resonates with me as a fine jewelry designer. The tsuba speak to the ideas of balance and protection, notions of empowerment which is at the core of our brand DNA,” said Monica Rich Kosann. “I create pieces to inspire customers so partnering with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and working with these incredible artifacts was a privilege…it’s my hope that the necklaces we’ve made together do just that.”
“We really embraced this opportunity to work with Monica Rich Kosann and her design team to bring art to life in wearable form,” added Debra LaKind, the MFA’s senior director, Intellectual Property and Business Development. “The malleability of gold has allowed artists to create intricate objects throughout the centuries and the MFA’s renowned collection of Japanese tsuba provided rich inspiration and historical context for these new charm designs.”
The Crane, in 18k yellow gold and white diamonds, is a symbol of good luck and longevity in East Asia. The Butterfly, in two-tone 18k yellow gold and silver with white sapphires, contains sculpted wings and represents transformation which mirrors personal growth and change. The Turtle and The Wave, in two-tone 18k yellow gold and silver with white sapphires, depicts longevity and prosperity alongside harmony; a balance between different forces of nature and life.
The MRK x MFA collection ranges from $925-$3,050 and will be available on www.monicarichkosann.com and at the MFA Shop.
The partnership was brokered by the MFA’s licensing agency, Jewel Branding & Licensing.
