According to a report in Newschannel 5, Chelsea King and Dawson Blankinship planned to use a $9,500 Tanzanite crystal in an heirloom ring worn by King's grandmother and aunt. They paid King Jewelers $1,100 to prepare the ring, which was sent to a gem cutter in Florida. On its return via FedEx, the package was stolen.

The couple claimed in the report that King Jewelers misled them, saying the ring would be insured up to $100,000, but later refused to compensate them. "What I didn't know was that they were shipping it off to a gem cutter in Miami," Blankinship said, as per the report.

When efforts to resolve the issue privately failed, Chelsea shared their story on TikTok, which gained attention. According to the couple, King Jewelers offered to make a replacement ring but did not provide financial compensation. "They never reached out to us behind the scenes or to our attorney," King said in the report.

The report noted that the couple is seeking over $75,000 in damages, hoping to warn others. "We don't want people to go down this route and feel stuck and hopeless," Dawson said.

Per the report, King Jewelers released a statement saying they followed procedures and offered either a custom ring with a superior gemstone or compensation at market value. They also suggested the couple's online statements amounted to defamation and extortion and said they are prepared to counter-sue.
