North Little Rock, AR—Like many other AGS jewelers, Stanley Jewelers & Gemologist gives its customers a small pocket calendar at the end of each year. This year, however, a misprint on the back—the printer apparently picked up and repeated the 2010 holiday date listing for 2011—prompted the jeweler to let customers know via its regular e-newsletter to come in for a replacement calendar with correct dates.

The calendar recall notice drew quite a response from customers. Says Laura Stanley, customers either emailed back saying they preferred the wrong dates, or gave her a friendly hard time that they never received a calendar in the first place.

“Of course I told them they should have come in to shop this Christmas so they wouldn’t have been left out,” she laughed.

Who knew such a small mistake could be a great marketing idea?
