According to NBC Los Angeles, the burglary took place around 1 a.m. on May 27 in the 1100 block of South Glendale Avenue. The suspects used blowtorches to open four safes after cutting through the roof.

Per the report, Glendale police and other agencies identified several suspects and launched surveillance. Police said they received information that the same group planned another burglary at Rodeo Jewelers in La Verne.

“As the suspects attempted to gain entry through the roof, law enforcement officers coordinated to take the group into custody,” Glendale police said, as noted in the report. The suspects also used signal jammers and cut wires during the La Verne incident.

The arrested individuals are foreign nationals who may be tied to similar crimes in the U.S. and abroad, the report highlighted.

Bidrussian Jewelry Store has operated in Glendale for over 40 years. Owner Manail Bidrussian described the crime as highly organized, noting that torch guns were used to breach reinforced safes. Losses were estimated at more than $2 million.

Bidrussian said the burglary took hours and that his alarm system did not activate. A small gold necklace depicting a child kneeling in prayer was left behind.

Law enforcement is investigating possible links among several recent jewelry store burglaries in Southern California.
