Hong Kong, Hong Kong--In a pop-up announcement on its official web site on June 18, the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, owned by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) has announced it will now cancel its March show, which had already been rescheduled to August 3-6, 2020. The Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair, also owned by TDC, has not yet announced plans for cancellation. It is presently scheduled for September 1-5, 2020.

This event had become popular as a sourcing event among many leading US Jewelers, who would frequently make the long-trip in search of volume-driven value pricing.

The Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, owned by Informa (formerly owned by UBM Asia), has not yet provided guidance on its popular September 13-19, 2020 event, scheduled for the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre and other venues, other than to say it is closely monitoring the situation.

Status announcements are expected very soon on the September Hong Kong jewelry and watch events. However 14-day quarantine rules in place through September 18 in Hong Kong will weigh heavily in decisioons to be made by the organizers.

As part of its anti-pandemic measures, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government announced on 2 June that the compulsory 14-day quarantine for persons arriving in Hong Kong from overseas will be extended until 18 September 2020. The extension of this restriction means that overseas exhibitors and buyers will have great difficulty joining the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show if they were to run from 3 to 6 August as scheduled. In consultation with industry representatives, it has been decided that the next jewellery shows will be held in March 2021 with details as follows:
 

•  HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show
   1 – 5 March 2021 | AsiaWorld-Expo

•  HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show
   3 – 7 March 2021 | Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

Meanwhile, we are also consulting with the industry to explore other viable promotional options to help companies seize business opportunities during this challenging time. Details of any new arrangement will be announced in due course.
