Indianapolis, IN--Reis-Nichols Jewelers says it will continue offering only natural diamonds, citing differences in origin, symbolism, and long-term value compared to lab-grown stones.

In an article, the retailer described natural diamonds as unique, one-of-a-kind gems formed 1 to 3 billion years ago beneath the Earth's surface and graded by leading gemological laboratories. Lab-grown diamonds, by contrast, are produced in weeks through high-pressure, high-temperature, or chemical vapor deposition processes.

According to Reis-Nichols, natural diamonds retain greater resale value, carry stronger symbolic weight, and are more suited for heirloom jewelry. Lab-grown diamonds, while visually similar and typically 30% to 60% less expensive, are mass-produced and have seen resale values fall as supply expands.

The jeweler acknowledged that lab-created stones appeal to buyers seeking affordability or larger sizes within budget and may be viewed as more environmentally friendly. However, the company emphasized that natural diamonds remain the standard for those who prioritize heritage and long-term significance.
