Warren Buffett Sets The Stage For A Legendary Proposal

Omaha, NE—Although he’s done so for four years now, the sight of Warren Buffett manning the diamond counter at Borsheims during the annual Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders’ Weekend never ceases to inspire awe among shoppers. This year, in addition to offering his famous “Crazy Warren” prices, Buffett proved he’s always got a few extra surprises up his sleeve.

The famed financier got in on the secret plans for a shareholder to propose to his girlfriend during the event. Under the pretense of shopping for a diamond necklace, the couple sat down with Buffett to look at a few selections. Right on cue, the great Oracle of Omaha handed over a small box, saying, “I think this is far more interesting.” The box contained a Precision Set engagement ring with a Borsheims’ Signature Diamond as its center stone, below:

“It was really neat. The guy planned this and got Warren Buffett involved,” he told The Centurion. “The video’s gone viral—on YouTube, Yahoo, everywhere.”

Peters Jewelers Becomes “The Shredder” For A Day

Avon Lake, OH--Peter & Co. Jewelers, an AGS retailer, recently hosted a highly successful promotion in its parking lot. That’s right—in the parking lot. Partnering with Carol Murphy, a realtor with Keller Williams Realty, the jeweler co-sponsored a document-shredding event in its parking lot, inviting area residents to bring sensitive private documents to be shredded for free on the spot. In just three hours, 155 vehicles arrived from surrounding areas, bringing many attendees who hadn’t ever visited Peter & Co. Jewelers previously and might never have if not for the event.

The goodwill from Shred Day was as valuable as the traffic, says Peter & Co. Jewelers owner Theresia Oreskovic. People were pleased to see their documents shredded while they watched, and not tossed into a dumpster to be disposed of elsewhere. “If we hadn’t set it up properly, we could have left a bad impression with potential customers. Promotions like this can’t just be thrown together,” she adds. “Not if you want people to come back… next time, to shop.”

“Shredding trucks have to be booked far in advance,” adds Murphy. “It takes time to put together something like this, but it’s well worth it when people leave with a good feeling.” Visitors appreciated how smoothly the event went—they were able to drive in, have help depositing their boxes, and leave in a timely manner. One man told the sponsors his wife at home was skeptical that nothing was free. When told there was indeed no charge, he took one of the sponsor’s recycle shopping bags and a business card home to his wife – proving that, for Peter & Co. Jewelers, too, it was possible to get something for free: positive exposure.
