“Our decision to close the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas store is final, and we are moving forward as such,” Saks Global said in a statement, emphasizing that the matter is not up for negotiation.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Consortium—a group of city and business leaders—has been working to keep the store open, even securing the deed for property owned by Slaughter Partners, one of the landlords involved in a dispute over land beneath the store. However, Saks Global maintains that the situation is “far more complicated than what the public is being led to believe.”

While the company acknowledged being open to hearing the Consortium’s perspective, it stated that no meeting had been confirmed. “We have made several attempts to be connected directly to the city manager, as an official representative of the City of Dallas, and we were denied,” the company said.

As previously reported by KERA News, Dallas officials have stressed Neiman Marcus’ significance as a historic and cultural landmark. Jennifer Scripps, president and CEO of Downtown Dallas Inc., previously warned that the store’s closure would mean more than just losing a retailer—it would be the loss of a defining part of downtown Dallas’ identity.
