Asheville, NC--Spicer Greene Jewelers has shared a behind-the-scenes look at its casting process in a new Facebook post. The jewelry designer, Kaitlin, creates 3D prints of her designs in a specialized wax. This wax model is then used to form a mold by casting it in a plaster-like material capable of withstanding extreme heat.

Per the post, when molten gold, silver, or platinum is injected into the mold, the wax melts away, leaving behind the solid metal form. The next stage involves removing the support structures from the cast pieces, with these structures being recycled for future castings. Finally, the rings are transferred to the shop, where bench jewelers polish the pieces and set stones.

Spicer Greene Jewelers credited this detailed process with helping them realize customers’ jewelry dreams, inviting visitors to learn more at their Downtown Asheville location or through their website.
