STUMBLEUPON UNSEATS FACEBOOK AS TOP SOCIAL WEB TRAFFIC DRIVER July 06, 2011 (0 comments)
San Francisco, CA—Web discovery engine StumbleUpon now sends more traffic to U.S. websites than Facebook, according to global web analytics service StatCounter. The company unseated number-one Facebook last month, according to this article on gigaom.com.
StumbleUpon, which finds and recommends relevant web content based on user interest, was founded in 2001 and sold to eBay for $75 million in 2007. Company founders Garrett Camp and Geoff Smith, along with a group of investors, bought the company back in 2009 and have been working quietly and diligently on a comeback ever since.
The site briefly overtook Facebook as number one in February before falling back behind the social giant. But now its rise is gaining traction as Facebook’s new user numbers are reportedly slowing down and Twitter is having some issues of its own.
