According to 9NEWS, the suspect, 22-year-old Derek Dun-Vargas, was indicted in federal court on Dec. 3 and faces charges of armed robbery and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

The robbery, which resulted in the theft of more than $2.5 million in jewelry, involved four other suspects previously indicted by a federal grand jury in August. As reported by 9NEWS, the suspects—Oswaldo Lozada-Solis (23), Jesus Daniel Lara Del Toro (20), Jean Franco Torres-Roman (21), and Edwuimar Nazareth Colina-Romero (18)—face similar charges. Colina-Romero is also charged with transporting and possessing stolen goods.

The June robbery took place at the store's Denver location near West 38th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard. During the incident, the suspects reportedly brandished firearms, struck employees with their weapons, and stole large quantities of gold and jewelry. The suspects were later located near El Paso, Texas, according to 9NEWS.

Joyeria El Ruby's owner, Lidia Tena, told 9NEWS that the store, which she has operated for 25 years, is the primary source of income for her and her children.

The same family business was hit again on November 22 at its Thornton location. Security footage captured three masked burglars using crowbars to break through the store's front doors just before 5 a.m. The burglars rifled through drawers, pocketed jewelry, and loaded items into bins before fleeing within four minutes. At least one additional suspect is believed to have remained outside with the vehicles used in the burglary, which were reported stolen, 9NEWS noted.

The Thornton Police Department is investigating the November burglary and urges anyone with information to contact their hotline at 720-977-5069.
