The AGS ‘Confluence’ Virtual Event to Focus on Natural and Lab-Grown Diamonds September 10, 2024 (0 comments)
Las Vegas, NV--"Confluence 2024,” virtual conference, hosted by The American Gem Society (AGS), will take place on September 25, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. PT, with sessions available on-demand from September 26 to December 31, 2024. The event is designed to deepen industry knowledge on key diamond topics.
“Confluence 2024 is an opportunity for AGS members and industry professionals to gain insights from leading experts on the latest developments in both natural and laboratory-grown diamonds,” AGS said in a statement. This year’s event will feature three sessions:
Laboratory-Grown Diamonds: Pricing, Supply, and Disclosure
David Mazer, CG, (Marks Jewelers) will moderate a panel that includes Sarah Yood, Esq. (JVC), Abe Sherman (BIG), Stanley Zale (Hill & Co.), and Joel Hassler, CGA (Von Hasle Jewelers). This session will explore the complexities of the laboratory-grown diamond market, including pricing dynamics, supply chain challenges, and the importance of transparent disclosure. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of market trends, opportunities, and best practices for maintaining transparency in communications. This session is essential for retailers and suppliers looking to stay competitive in a rapidly changing industry.
The Importance of Diamond Screening: Challenges, Techniques, and Resources
AGS’s Director of Gemology, Wade Abel, CG, will moderate a panel featuring Raluca Anghel (Natural Diamond Council), Randy Lightfoot, CG (Mayflower Estate Buying & Consulting), and Guy Borenstein (Stuller). As laboratory-grown diamonds become more prevalent, the need for accurate screening techniques is more critical than ever. This session will cover the latest screening technologies, discuss challenges and limitations, and provide guidance on using standard gemological instruments for additional verification. Participants will also learn about resources for selecting the right Diamond Verification Instrument (DVI), with insights from the Natural Diamond Council’s ASSURE program.
The Incredible Story of Natural Diamonds
GIA’s Dr. James Shigley and John Cason will discuss the geological history and mining of natural diamonds, emphasizing their rarity and unique formation processes. The speakers will offer ideas that jewelers can share with customers to highlight the distinct value of natural diamonds compared to laboratory-grown alternatives.
Alongside these three sessions, bonus content focused on natural and lab-grown diamonds will be available on-demand. Confluence 2024 is free for the first 200 AGS members who register. Recognizing the importance of this topic, the American Gem Society invites all industry members to participate. Non-members can take advantage of special pricing and offers.
