Merrick, NY—As the industry gathered in Las Vegas for the JCK and Couture Shows, the biggest question on everybody’s mind was, “how will business be?” While the luxury sector was solid, results were mixed in other sectors of the show. The Diamond Producers Association launched details of its plan to recapture consumers’ passion for diamonds; synthetic diamonds continue to worry the industry while technology increasingly changes how business is done, and multiple companies offered celebrity superstar entertainment in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Brexit rattled the financial sector but should have minimal impact on our industry, but as yet another longtime retail jeweler closes, its sixth generation owner blasts Millennials for not supporting local business.
