The Smithsonian is Set to Unveil the Rare 2.33-Carat ‘Winston Red Diamond’ February 24, 2025 (0 comments)

Washington, D.C.--The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History will unveil the 2.33-carat “Winston Red Diamond,” one of the world’s largest fancy red diamonds on April 1.
The gem will be displayed as part of the “Winston Fancy Color Diamond Collection,” a group of some of the rarest and most important gems in the world, the museum said. The fancy red diamond and the rest of the important gems are a gift to the museum by Ronald Winston, the son of distinguished jeweler and gem collector Harry Winston, Forbes reports.

In 1958, Harry Winston donated the iconic Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian, laying the foundation for the museum’s National Gem Collection.
The Winston Red Diamond and Winston Fancy Color Diamond Collection will be featured in the museum’s Winston Gallery, offering visitors the opportunity to witness one of the finest collections of fancy color diamonds ever amassed, the museum reportedly said.
