Last month, The Centurion discussed what a rising gold price means to jewelers. It’s now climbed above $1,400 an ounce, but still well below the 1980 price (in inflation-adjusted dollars.) That would be about $2,200. Retailers have increased holiday inventory by an average of 2.8% over last year, according to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal.
