Merrick, NY—The summer tradeshow season kicks off next week. Along with stock balancing, finding new lines, and meeting with friends and colleagues, the savvy prestige jeweler is also planning for hometown press coverage of his or her activities.

To that end, The Centurion has compiled a list of public relations activities and ideas. Use one or all to better reach your best customers and potential new fans.

Before You Leave:

1) Scrutinize your list of appointments for potential 'grip and grin' photos; those photos showing you (and perhaps your team) with those famous designer names. And if you don't have any, you've got time to make an appointment or two. Or seven.

2) Decide where you'll use any great photos or information. A few choices: in a press release, in a Facebook post, in a tweet, online with the designer's jewelry on Pinterest, in your store's newsletter, in a blog post, etc. Better yet, do them all or spread several photos around so your photo gets the most attention and you're always with someone very interesting.

3) Know the caamera requirements for online vs. print. If your PR efforts are going to be solely online, the camera in your phone may work fine. If you also plan to do an outreach for print PR, make sure the phone in your camera shoots print quality images (minimum 300 dpi), or take a small camera (even a disposable digital one) with you.

4) Be sure to check to see if any of the shows have a 'hometown publicity' type program where they take your photo and send it to you for distribution. It’s an easy way to showcase you and your brand at a show.

At The Shows:

* A security note: Make sure you only mention you're at a show (not which one) if you're posting live. Don't be specific or give any location or other details until after the shows have closed. Read this article for additional tips about security and social media.

5) Blog / post / tweet, etc. your favorite new pieces, new brands, classic brands and stir up some excitement.

6) Get photos! Have someone use your camera to take photos of you and your team shopping or conferring. Include both some work and some play. Showcase each team member with their favorite piece from each brand.

7) Do a short video with an industry expert talking about the latest trends or what they think the hot item for fall is. Distribute it, especially to the local press.

After The Show

8) Send out a press release to your local media and for print and online exposure. Invite those media people by for an in-depth look at your new jewels along with upcoming trends info.

9) Offer a post on trends (or just some great new looks) you saw at the show and connect your inventory to it online and through your company newsletter.

10) Don't forget to let your brands know when a story gets picked up.

And don't forget: Be sure you don't post anything that you wouldn't want your competition—or a thief—to see!
