$150,000 Initiative Launched to Protect Small Businesses in Santa Clara County September 25, 2025 (0 comments)
San Jose, CA--Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen has committed $150,000 to programs aimed at preventing organized retail crime against small businesses, ABC 7 News reported.
The decision follows recent smash-and-grab incidents at Kim Hung Jewelry in San Jose and a jewelry store in Milpitas. The 88-year-old owner of Kim Hung was assaulted during the robbery and suffered a stroke and heart attack, according to the report.
Funds will provide 200 devices that link businesses' security systems to the San Jose police's real-time intelligence center. Police Chief Paul Joseph said the program enables officers to view authorized feeds and relay information to responding units.
Officials said the goal is to deter theft crews tied to recent crimes. Supervisor Otto Lee called the acts "unacceptable," while Mayor Matt Mahan stressed police must adapt as criminals change tactics.
Businesses can join the program through ConnectSanJose.org.
