Randolph, NJ--Ulysse Nardin and its recently-announced brand ambassador Randy Johnson (the legendary Cy Young-winning lefty) unveiled the brand’s first “Big Unit” watch just before the October 25 World Series game broadcast last week in New York.

Like the 6’10” man himself who lays claim to that nomenclature, the watch is a nicely sized 45.8 mm, writes Roberta Naas of A Timely Perspective. The chronograph, which retails for $15,500, was a cooperative design with Ulysse Nardin and Johnson. It is a monochromatic piece in black with blue and red accents. The steel case is coated with black rubber, and the chronograph seconds hand is adorned with the baseball symbol. On the outer bezel of the chronograph, the numerals read 20, 30, 40 in black on gold, but instead of the “50”, there is a red “51” – denoting Johnson’s number for most of his career. Franck Muller’s newest Conquistador watches—unveiled in Monaco at the WPHH show—are a bold rendition of time with a very wild dial, reports Naas.  The automatic watch, pictured at the top of the page, is square with cushioned corners, and features a dial with big Arabic numerals, beneath which the dial features a fantastic wave pattern. The new versions are offered in titanium, or in Ergal, a proprietary aluminum alloy developed for the brand.  The rubber-strapped watch comes in several renditions; each features a decorated movement with 158 parts and a power reserve of 42 hours.
