Merrick, NY—Peter Smith, president of Memoire and the author of two renowned books on retailing, Hiring Squirrels – 12 Essential Questions to Uncover Great Retail Talent and Sell Something: Principles and Perspectives for Engaged Retail Salespeople, will address the Long Island Guild of the American Gem Society on Tuesday, May 14.

Smith is an industry veteran with more than 35 years in both wholesale and retail jewelry. He is a columnist for National Jeweler and The Jewelry Book, where he writes about the retail experience, and also has penned essays for The Centurion Newsletter.

Smith’s column on The Future of Retail Jewelry Stores was named by National Jeweler and JCK Online as one of the most important articles of 2016. It is that column which serves as the backdrop for the talk he will present.

As a keen observer of developments across the broader retail landscape, Smith offers a compelling perspective on what is transpiring in retail today and connects the dots in a way that both challenges some of the myths about the “retail apocalypse” and offers a useful roadmap for retailers who might be looking to change course.

A native of Ireland, Smith is a graduate of Boston College and the Key Executive Program of the Harvard Business School. He is a frequent speaker about the future of retail, hiring salespeople, and sales psychology.

The event will be held Tuesday, May 14, at Piccola Bussola Restaurant, 159 Jericho Turnpike, Mineola, NY. Networking will begin at 7 p.m.; dinner and Smith’s presentation will begin at 7:30, with discussion and questions to follow.

Advance registration is $53 for a non-kosher meal, $63 for kosher, or $58 (non-kosher) and $68 (kosher) at the door.
