Buffalo, NY--Sid Birzon and his brother Gerald, who have been in the wholesale business for decades with Birzon Jewelers, are closing their store for good on Christmas eve.

The closing is a "bittersweet" experience for the duo. "I've been in the business 34 years, so it's time to retire now," Birzon said in a report.

The store, located on Niagra Falls Boulevard in the Town of Tonawanda, has also witnessed the jewelry industry's rapid transformation.

"The industry is changing," Birzon explained, per the report. "Laboratory grown diamonds are becoming more popular, and we never believed in that, so we never got into that at all."

Birzon's loyalty lies with mined diamonds, which take a million years to make, compared to the short period taken in the laboratory.

"We just think diamonds are worth it, those laboratory grown diamonds are worth zero as an investment," Birzon stated in the report.

Birzon's retirement plan includes traveling, as his life for the past 34 years saw him working six days a week.
