Christopher Designs Partners In Vices Box; Founder Interviewed On CNN Money
New York, NY—Christopher Designs and Robb Vices partnered for a special auction benefiting Jewelers For Children, held at the JCK Luxury Show. Robb Vices, a monthly subscription service that delivers a boxed selection of carefully curated luxury products and experiences to its members, created a special box (left) for the auction, with a L’Amour Crisscut diamond pendant, a Napa Valley Metaphora Pinot Noir 2010, and a bacon-covered dark chocolate bar. The winner was Jennifer Garret of XO Group, publishers of The Knot. Watch a video of the drawing here.
Diamantaire Christopher Slowinski, founder of Christopher Designs, was recently interviewed by CNN Money’s Alison Kosik. He describes how his signature CrissCut came about as the result of a cutting mistake, and how his new L’Amour diamonds offer a bigger look for less money—though at close to $1 million for the stones shown in the video, “bargain” is relative. The Smell Of Paraiba
New York, NY—Have you ever wondered what an exotic gemstone smells like? Jeweler Bvlgari, renowned for its perfumes as well as its jewelry, has added a new scent—Paraiba—to its Omnia line of perfumes named after gemstones. An ad featuring the perfume is shown here:
Paraiba tourmaline, the rare electric teal-blue stone from Brazil, is the latest gem to have inspired a new fragrance for the Omnia line, which also includes scents inspired by such gems as coral, green jade, garnet, amethyst, and crystal. Of course, Paraiba’s bottle and box are the same color as the gem.
Gem dealer Samuel Sylvio, a leading Paraiba dealer, thinks it’s so perfect that he’s gifting all his retail clients with the perfume with the purchase of a stone.

Uneek Engagement Ring Grabs The Knot Editors' Pick Award, Spawns Mini Collection
Las Vegas, NV—An engagement ring design by Los Angeles-based Uneek Fine Jewelry was honored with The Knot Editors' Pick 2016 at the recently concluded Luxury by JCK and JCK Las Vegas shows.
This is the second year in a row that Uneek designer Benjamin Javaheri was honored by The Knot, and it’s his eighth industry award overall.
"A lot of designers and retailers consider The Knot as an arbiter of all that is good in bridal, and their editorial team has the highest standards," said Javaheri. "So, to me, having a piece of mine named The Knot Editor's Pick is just as good as any industry award, even better in some ways. If you have a design that is relevant to tastemakers, then it's only a matter of time before it becomes relevant to everyone else."
The platinum ring, a three-stone model from Uneek's Signature Collection, is designed to hold a pear-shaped diamond center (from 1.50 carats and up) within a U-pave halo; two kite-shaped diamonds (also encased in their own halos) flank the center. Uneek is now in the process of designing spinoff styles, featuring oval and marquise centers.

Rio Tinto Collaborates On Mine-Of-Origin Jewelry Collections
Las Vegas, NV—Rio Tinto Diamonds presented its 2016-2017 Diamonds With A Story collection, by six U.S. designers, at the Couture Show in Las Vegas. The six designers are Paige Novick, Xiao, Jennifer Dawes, Matthew Campbell Laurenza, Suzanne Kalan and Sandy Leong. Their collections, using Australian tracked diamonds, were designed according to the latest consumer trends and are available to retailers through Rio Tinto’s manufacturing partners.
Rio Tinto also announced its intention to focus its global sales and marketing initiatives on tracked jewelry collections that have a clear and transparent chain of custody from the mine to the market. The initiative was kicked off at the JCK Las Vegas show, where Rio Tinto also showcased a new series of marketing materials and branded communications.
Bruno Sané, general manager of marketing for Rio Tinto Diamonds, said, “We see a unique business opportunity for the industry to tap into the changing expectations of a new generation of consumers who want to know where their diamonds come from. Increasingly, the value of a diamond is tied to where and how the diamond was mined, how it was cut and polished, and the process of bringing it to sale. This is a very reasonable expectation that is steadily reshaping the diamond industry for the better.”
Brandee Dallow, director of Rio Tinto Diamonds’ North American office, added, “Our joint goal is to build awareness to the unparalleled beauty of natural diamonds through well-designed jewelry and a strong commitment to socially responsible practices.“
