Gumuchian to Introduce Casual Pieces to Gallop Collection

New York, NY—Gumuchian has hit the ground running with its “Gallop” collection, inspired by a horse bit motif. Designers Anita, Myriam, and Patricia Gumuchian combine Art Deco classicism with modern sensibility for this collection. The highlight of the collection is the all-diamond Gallop necklace that can be worn as a necklace, choker or a straight diamond chain, thanks to ingenious invisible clasps. Launched with much success at JCK Las Vegas last June, the designers next will unveil a group of more casual and bolder gold Gallop pieces at the Centurion show in January in Scottsdale.

John Hardy Headlines Bloomies’ New Jewelry Department

New York—Balinese jewelry design house John Hardy is taking center stage in the renovation of the fine jewelry department in Bloomingdale's flagship 59th Street store here.  According to this report in Luxury Daily, the jeweler is located on the store’s balcony, sharing space with other luxury fashion-focused jewelers Roberto Coin and Ippolita. Hardy’s section was built as a joint venture with Bloomingdale's, says the report, complete with specially designed wood cases using materials from Bali, and it will have a dragon-detailed center column to create a branded environment.

“The metal we work with every day [and] the wood is all important because it says who we are and the strengths of the jewelry,” Hardy CEO Damien Dernoncourt said in the report. He and creative director Guy Bedarida were on hand for a special opening event last week at the store.

The John Hardy counter in the newly renovated Bloomingdale's flagship jewelry department is slated to have a dragon theme.

The Hardy installation is part of a greater renovation of the firm’s jewelry department, clearly focusing on branded lines. Other brands now represented there include Tous, Links of London, Brumani, Buccellati, Bvlgari, Damiani, Di Massima, Di Modolo, Georg Jensen, India Hicks, Paul Morelli, Suzanne Kalan, Dodo, Vianna Brazil, and Yvel.

The store’s shoe and women’s apparel departments also are being redesigned.

Todd Reed Goes Nuts for Pie

Boulder, CO—Designer Todd Reed and his team took a break from making jewelry recently and headed into the kitchen to whip up a special treat for customers and friends: homemade pecan pies. The team, coming in on a Sunday and borrowing the kitchen of local caterer Natural Temptations, used a special recipe of organic ingredients and “lots of love,” according to company spokesperson Naomi Brown. The crew baked dozens of pecan pies, and packed and shipped them off around the country. Here are a few fun snapshots of the pie production line.

Swiss Watchmaker Partners With Andrea Bocelli Foundation

Los Angeles, CA—Girard-Perregaux is partnering with singer Andrea Bocelli in the launch of his new foundation, the Andrea Bocelli Foundation. The foundation will launch with a 2011 Benefit Gala on December 9, featuring a dinner and special performances by Bocelli himself as well as David Foster, Heather Headley, and Anna Maria Martinez. The foundation will be a grant-making body, supporting two types of programs: one to alleviate poverty around the world, and the other to help people overcome limitations caused by illness or disability.

Classical music singing sensation Andrea Bocelli, left, has teamed with Girard-Perregaux (right) for his new foundation to fight poverty and help individuals overcome adversity.

“We are very proud and excited to join forces with Andrea Bocelli in the launch of his new foundation”, says Michele Sofisti, CEO of Sowind Group, parent company of the Girard-Perregaux brand. “His accomplishments as an artist and philanthropist are an inspiration to all of us and we are happy to support him in this new pursuit.” Bocelli is the world’s highest selling solo artist in the history of classical music.

“I feel very strongly about helping people make the most of the world that we live in,” says Bocelli, who was born with very poor eyesight and fully blind by age 12. “Overcoming blindness and dealing with its consequences has taught me about the nature of externally imposed limits, and has encouraged me to think about how to help and support others facing barriers in their lives. Every human being has the right to be happy, fulfilled, and to live a flourishing and meaningful life. I want to help those who face barriers in achieving their life’s potential.”
