The shipment, intercepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), was on its way from Thailand to an Oklahoma residence.
According to a Country Herald report, the shipment contained a variety of fake luxury items:
- 53 watches showcasing prominent brand logos such as Rolex, Gucci, Hermes, and Louis Vuitton
- Nine bracelets bearing the Rolex emblem
- Three handbags with the unmistakable Louis Vuitton branding
- Two scarves adorned with Gucci labels
When assessed by CBP trade specialists, the genuine versions of these imitations would be valued at approximately $1.08 million.
The report noted that the subpar packaging first caught the officers' attention. Upon thorough inspection, every item in the shipment was identified as violating the original designers' trademark rights.
The report added that this isn't a lone case for the CBP officers. In the previous year, they made an astonishing 24.5 million seizures due to infringements on intellectual property rights, highlighting the continuous battle against counterfeit luxury goods entering the US.
