Brighton, MI—Shoppers at Cooper & Binkley Jewelers will find an unusual holiday display this year. Instead of the typical holiday fare of garland and lights, the jeweler collaborated with The Artisan’s Bench, a Brighton gallery, on an installation of Michigan-centric art. Image: WHMI 93.5

WHMI 93.5 reports painter and printmaker Petrus Martens created a series of travel-style prints featuring Brighton and its famous Mill Pond, each of the Great Lakes, and other important Michigan waterways.

Barbara Binkley, who owns the jewelry store with her husband, Mark, told the radio station the Brighton Mill Pond piece she commissioned was even better than she expected.

Cooper & Binkley Jewelers was founded as Cooper's Jewelry in 1949, by Marshall Cooper. Keith Binkley purchased the building and business in 1971 and sold it to Mark and Barbara, his son and daughter-in-law, in 1991. In 2000, the couple demolished the original 80-year-old structure and reopened in the same location with a new look and new name.
