Per a report in Supercar Blondie, the watch's owner had been trying to recover it since losing it last year while on holiday. Mallorca is home to Mallorca Detecting, a company specializing in recovering lost items from the sea.

Caro and Giorgio, the founders of Mallorca Detecting, are professional divers who use metal detectors to locate lost possessions. They reported that the Patek Philippe Aquanaut is the most valuable item they have recovered, surpassing even a Rolex found by a surfer in Australia.

The report added that the Aquanaut Travel Time 5164A model is valued at $80,000 on the pre-owned market despite a retail price of $42,500.

The watch is known for its durability and 100m water resistance, which explains its resilience after prolonged exposure to the elements.
